I am assuming you're using CRVS and you're on SP 10. I think that is a pretty safe assumption remembering a few other posts from you. But do double check.
Now, as for the issue. You mention this is happening when exporting to PDF. What about if you view the report? Do you see the data then? How are you doing the export - via code or the viewer button?
Is this a web or a win app? Remember web apps may postback and this often results in loss of data or database connection termination - sessions are the answer there.
What about if you print the report?
Do you see the issue if you run a "saved data" report?
