Update element value in appraisal

Hi all,

I have a requirement to update the value against a rating (element) in an appraisal document related tables. This is to be done via a report that would pick up data from a file that specifies the template, the element and the rating value against it. All this data is to be then updated i the appraisal document tables. Now I do not understand how this is to be done and what Function modules would help. The ones I have checked play around with the template and not the values we store in the templates.

Please share your valuable inputs on my query.
